31st October Youth-Led Service

Hi Everyone

As a lot of you know we are once again leading the Sunday morning service this time on the 31st of October. It’s been a while since we have done one of these in church (for some strange reason…) The theme this time is Sharing God’s Light and what I would love to know from you is if you are up for helping out with it and what you would like to do?

We need people to lead, do readings, prayers, tech, music, preach and more so if you have ever thought I would like to try and do that let me know! (If you could let me know by the 17th of October that would be great.) If you want to be part of the band for this service we are going to have a rehearsal together on the Saturday before the service (30th of October)  from 15:00 – 16:30 so will need to be around for that. (If you can’t be around for that but want to join in the band let me know, we might be able to work something out/if enough people can’t make then look at a different time.)

I hope that all makes sense and I really hope you get involved with the service in some way, even if you are a bit nervous about it I would encourage you to go for it (it really is a lot of fun!)

If you have any questions about it all let me know and see you all soon!

Hope that makes sense if you have any questions about that let me know and I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Hi Everyone

Just a quick reminder that if you attend any of our youth work whether that’s on a Sunday morning or during the week we need you to signup online so we have important contact and safety information. (Even if you have done that before we need you to redo it each September.)

You can do that at – www.sheet.church/youthsignup

Thanks to all of those who have already done it and if you have any issues/or questions about the process please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Churches At University

Hi Everyone

I’m aware that I’ve already shared with lots of you starting university this month resources about finding a church there but thought it would be helpful to have it all written down somewhere so you can reference it. (I’m also aware that for quite a lot of you getting this it doesn’t apply to you yet but figured you might know someone who would find it useful/it might be useful for you in the future.)

Firstly though and most importantly just because you are now at university does not mean that we are no longer there to help and support you. We are praying for all of you at university and if you need help with anything please do reach out to us at any time and we can’t wait to catch up with you in the holidays and see how things are going. 😀

Why should I find a church at University?

Firstly though you may be wondering why should I bother with finding a church at university well there are a bunch of reasons:

  • Firstly and most importantly it helps support us in our faith. (There is a reason churches already exist!) When we meet and share with it helps our faith grow and also encourages us to help others.
  • It helps you meet people outside of University including people who are at different stages in life than you and breaks you out of the ‘student bubble’. Giving you friendships that aren’t just based on being at university (as important as those are) and another source of support for you.
  • It can help get a feel more for the city you are living in and the communities around you.
  • Also frankly it’s usually a good way to get a lot of free food with things like church lunches which is always appreciated!

So even if only some of those reasons make sense to you I would encourage you to still giving finding a church where you are living a try it can really help!

But there are lots of churches how do I find one that I feel at home in?

This is true there are lots of different churches in lots of different styles, feels and communities and it can seem really scary to go along to one you don’t know anything about possibly by yourself thankfully there are some things to help with this:

  1. Firstly every University will have some sort of Christian Union which is a university society that’s there to support people in their Christian faith. Most (if not all) of them will be doing events in the first few weeks where they will be getting people from different churches in the area to come and share about their church and what they do. As well as organising lifts/groups to walk to different churches on a Sunday. Get in touch with them see what they have going on!
  2. There is also a website you can use called Student Linkup run by an organisation called Fusion which you can find here – https://www.fusionmovement.org/find-a-church You can type in where you are going to university and they will show you all the churches in the area that are reaching out and supporting students. As well as giving information about the services/groups they do and how to get in touch. This website is amazing and well worth doing a search on and a good way to get in touch with a local church.
  3. Lastly, feel free to message us. It may well be we know someone who lives there or have links with a church in the area and can help you with finding a church for you. 😁

That’s helpful but I’m not sure this all seems a bit scary!

You’re right it can all be a bit scary especially as you are already meeting so many new people already and working out what life looks like now for you in a new place with a new routine. That’s okay though because other people will feel the same as well and I guarantee wherever you are there are people that want to help you find a church and community for you to be part of. I know for me when I was at university finding a church was one of the best decisions I made while I was there as they really helped me not only with my faith but generally with uni life and really supported me when I was struggling. It’s really is worth doing.

I hope this will help encourage and be useful to all of you who are off the uni this month. If you have any questions (or if you think there is something we’ve missed) please let us know. As I said at the beginning we love you, we are praying for you and we can’t wait to see you all again in the holidays to hear all about how it’s been going and if you are struggling with anything please do get in touch anytime we would love to help you.

Our Youth Groups This Autumn

Hi Everyone

As the schools start back up this (and last) week so do our regular youth groups, the weekly emails will be going out with more details for each group but given it’s the start of a new school year I wanted to just give you a rundown of what the groups are. Before that, as some of you will know each September we ask everyone to get their parents to fill out a youth work permission form again so that we have the most up to date information and we’re not storing anyone’s details when we don’t need to. So please if you are planning to come to any of these groups or other things we are running please can you make sure your parents have filled out this form at the link below.

www.sheet.church/youthsignup

Now onto the groups!

Coffee @ Costa

Friday, 14:30 – 17:30

Each week on a Friday during term time we meet upstairs at Costa in Petersfield for a weekly catch up, hang out and relax at the end of the week as well as playing some games. It’s drop in/drop out so if you are in town at any point on Friday afternoon then come along and we will buy you a drink!

SMART

2nd & 4th Saturday, 17:00 – 19:00

This is our Saturday evening youth group where we run around outside (weather permitting, that tends not to happen as much in the middle of winter…), play lots of different games, have food and think about different issues we face and the bible might have to say about it. Please note because of ongoing social distancing requirements rather than bringing food to share with everyone, we still need to bring food for just ourselves. We do all this at a place Cloncaird please get in touch if you would like directions.

Upper Room

Sunday 10:00 – 11:15(ish)

Upper Room is our group that meets on Sundays during the 10 am service. This is where we look at God’s word, discuss how it applies to our day to day lives and support each other in prayer. This is along with making things, playing games and just generally relaxing (it is a Sunday morning after all!) Please note that in September at least instead of joining in for the first part of the church service then walking down to the village hall we are just meeting directly in the village hall.

& More?

That’s right we have plans for more exciting things as well that I will share with you as soon as I can so watch this space!

Also some of you may of realised there a couple of groups not mentioned here that we have run before, but don’t worry that doesn’t mean they have disappeared! Just that we are tweaking them a bit and will announce more shortly as well.

I hope that’s a helpful reminder about what these groups are as they start back up this week (Costa on the 10th, SMART 11th, Upper Room 12th.) If you have any questions about any of them please do get in touch. Also along with the weekly emails saying what’s happening that week (they usally go out Wednesday, though this week it will be Thursday) we also have a Google Calendar that has an up to date list of all the things we have coming up. You can see that here – (www.sheet.church/youthcalendar).

I’m so excited the youth groups are starting back up again (in person no less) and can’t wait to see you all. Speak to you soon!

This Week – Honey Heist Social!

Hi Everyone

This is what is happening with the youth work at Sheet Church this week. Hope to see you there!

Honey Heist Social – 20/08/21

Starts: 14:00
Ends: 17:30
Location: Avon Close (Message me for details)

Details
While our regular groups aren’t meeting over the summer we are still having a couple of socials in August on Friday we are going to have one where we play a game called Honey Heist. Now I’m aware that sentence probably means nothing to most of you so let me explain. Honey Heist is a game that plays a bit like Dungeons & Dragons (for those of you who have played that game before) where we have one person leading us through a story and we all play different characters deciding what we would like to do in it. It’s a lot of fun and anyone can play (all you have to do is roll some dice sometimes and choose what you want to do). However, there are two important things to know about this game:

You will be tasked with infiltrated an international honey convention to steal precious honey. You are an actual bear.

As you can tell this game isn’t the most serious but is a lot of fun! So if you fancy trying it out and are around Friday (20th) from 14:00 – 17:30 come along and join in with the heist! We will be meeting at my house (message me if you need directions) and if you are interested in coming it would be helpful if you could book in using the link below so we have a rough idea of numbers.

Honey Heist Booking Link

I hope that all makes sense I know it sounds like a weird idea for a game but I promise it is a lot of fun and can’t wait to see you then! (There will be more news about other socials coming shortly!) As always any questions let me know and see you on Friday!

And that’s it for this week as always if you have any questions let me know and I look forward to seeing you soon.
